Hip-hop artists have been known to live the life of luxury due to their outrageous fortunate as a result of their talent. Most of hip-hop’s wealthiest artists are the same seven that always seem to populate the list. However, in recent years, some of the usual suspects have dropped off of the list due to bad investments and other poor choices with their fortune. This has allowed talented newcomers to break onto the list and be considered one of the seven richest rappers in the world. Many of the rappers on this list have expanded their portfolio beyond rap and into endorsements, alcoholic products, clothes and accessories.

New to the list is Drake who surpassed 50 cent after he went bankrupt due to a bad and costly investment. This Toronto-based rapper is currently valued at around $60 million which is rapidly growing. He is following is Lil Wayne’s steps with frantic releases and touring around the world. Expect big things from this star in the future with new endorsements such as his unreleased whiskey, Virginia Black, as well as streaming his new album on Apple Music his first week. Drake is also involved in Nike, Sprite and the Toronto Raptors.
Six: Lil Wayne
As one of the founding member of Cash Money records when he was a teenager, Lil Wayne’s first solo album, Tha Block is Hot, sold over one million copies. Lil Wayne went on to found Young Money Entertainment which has produced a variety of number one albums with artists such as Nicki Minaj, Tyga and Drake. Lil Wayne is worth an estimated $150 million.
Marshall Mathers II, AKA Eminem, was discovered by Dr. Dre and released his first album, The Slim Shady LP in early 1999 which ended up being multi-platinum. In 2000, Eminem followed-up his first release with another killer album, The Marshall Mathers LP which is the fastest-selling album of all-time. After numerous successful albums, Shady Records was founded with Paul Rosenberg. The label signed D12, 50 Cent and Obie Trice in conjunction with Dr. Dre’s Aftermath label. Eminem has also appeared in numerous movies making him worth an estimated $160 million.
Fourth on the list is Birdman who is the head of Cash Money records. Worth an estimated $160 million, a decrease from last year due to issues within the company, trouble may be on the horizon for the rap mogul. Lil Wayne has slowed his frantic pace of releases and there are rumors of his departure as well as Drake and Nicki Minaj which could cripple the record label. Birdman started Cash Money records with a slew of rap artists including Lil Wayne, Juvenile, B.G. and a variety of other characters.
Three: Jay Z
Not surprising that Jay Z is in the top three, his net worth is $610 million. Born in Brooklyn, Jay Z has a variety of holdings that have lined his coffers. However, the Tidal streaming service was his biggest earner on paper in 2015. Currently, there are three million paid subscribers and the company is estimated at three times more than its purchase price of $56 million.
Two: Dr. Dre
Coming in at second place is Dr. Dre who made most of his $710 million fortunate from the largest one-off payday any living musician has ever earned. Dr. Dre sold Beats by Dr. Dre to Apple for around $1 billion. Also, the movie Straight Outta Compton further padded his wallet in 2015. Dr. Dre is sitting on an incredible portfolio of Southern California real estate and a nine-figure cash savings.
Topping the list is Diddy and it is no surprise that the best friend of Biggie Smallz has made hundreds of millions of dollars from a variety of areas, more than just hip-hop. The majority of his fortunate has come from an agreement with Diageo’s Ciroc vodka which can be found in bars around the world. Add in his stake in television network, Revolt, Bad Boy record label, Sean John clothing line, alkaline water Aquahydrate and Deleon tequila and you have a multi-millionaire. Diddy’s estimated worth is around $750 million, slightly up from last year’s total.
